Why do the English course for beginners?

This course is ideal for you if:

  • You want to start from scratch and go at a comfortable pace.
  • You prefer to study in small groups (8 students maximum).
  • You want to stay motivated and see progress in your English.

In all of our courses the teaching method we follow is based on the the active participation of all students in the learning process. With that in mind, you are the protagonist of the class and the teacher guides the learning process.

The classes are very engaging and are done 100% in English from the very beginning. We work on the 4 different language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) by doing a variety of classroom activities.

The activities (dialogues, roll play, presentations, working in pairs, etc.) come from real-life contexts and are used to help practice important functions such as giving or asking for information, expressing your opinion, your likes and dislikes, persuading, discussing plans, etc.

The classes are fun, engaging and dynamic and led by experienced and qualified teachers.

What will I learn?

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Introduce yourself and other people. Give and ask for basic information.
  • Describe people’s apperances, objects, places and situations.

What will the classes be like?
Fun, engaging and dynamic!

You will be in a small group of students (8 maximum) and do a mixture of activities from the textbook and on the interactive whiteboard. The classes are student-centred, meaning they are focused on speaking and practice, guided by the teacher. The classes are carefully structured and prepared by our experienced teachers, with each lesson focused around one or two topics and language points. You will also have plenty of time to review and recycle what you have learned, giving you the necessary practise to achieve fluency in English.

What is the communicative approach?
The communicative approach is a practical teaching method that emphasises students interacting in real, ‘authentic’ scenarios in order to learn the language. Nowadays it is considered one of the most effective methods in language learning. You can read more about it here.
What does 'immersion' mean?
Immersion means that from the moment you enter the classroom you will be encouraged to speak only in English. You may be wondering, “how can I speak and understand English if I’ve just started learning?” The answer is that all our qualified and professionally trained teachers use a range of teaching techniques to help the student understand without using any translation.
I feel shy speaking in English. How can you help me?
It is completely normal to feel shy or silly speaking another language for the first time. All of our teachers are experienced professionals and are here to gently encourage you in the classroom. You won’t be put on the spot, and you won’t be made to talk if you are uncomfortable. We strictly limit our groups to 8 people maximum (the average group size is about 5 students per class) so you won’t feel overwhelmed.

Además, disfrutarás de una excelente atención al cliente por parte de nuestro personal de recepción y coordinadores. Son cercanos y amables, así que no dudes en pedir ayuda, estamos aquí para que te sientas cómodo y relajado en todo momento.

I am a complete beginner. Does the teacher speak my language?
All of our English teachers speak some Spanish. Their aim is to teach the entire class in English, which is usually successful, but they can always help you out with the occasional Spanish translation, if necessary. There are also many translation tools available online if you don’t speak Spanish, so don’t worry. You will be amazed at what you can understand and say with a well-structured class and guidance from our experienced teachers!
Which level is best for me?
You will complete a thorough level test with one of our teachers in order to place you in the most appropriate level. This consists of an initial online test, followed by a speaking and listening test done at the school. As soon as we have the results we will let you know which group is best for you. If you feel the level is too easy or too difficult, we can easily move you into one more appropriate for you. You can take the online level test here.

It has been a pleasure being a part of L4L and working with all the wonderful teachers. I look back over the last 2 years and really can’t believe how much I’ve learned! It’s centrally located, in a beautiful building in Eixample, and I can say both the technology and the teaching are state-of-the-art. Classes are always quite small and they cater to your individual needs. If you are looking for a good quality language school, this is your place in BCN. I can’t say enough good things about them!
