Why study long-term English?

This course is ideal for you if:

  • You want to improve your English language skills.
  • You want to study but don’t have much time.
  • You prefer studying in a small group.

In all of our courses the teaching method we follow is based on the the active participation of all students in the learning process. With that in mind, you are the protagonist of the class and the teacher guides the learning process.

The classes are very engaging and are done 100% in English from the very beginning. We work on the 4 different language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) by doing a variety of classroom activities.

The activities (dialogues, roll play, presentations, working in pairs, etc.) come from real-life contexts and are used to help practice important functions such as giving or asking for information, expressing your opinion, your likes and dislikes, persuading, discussing plans, etc.

The classes are fun, engaging and dynamic and led by experienced and qualified teachers.

Frequently asked questions

What will the classes be like?
Fun, engaging and dynamic!

You will be in a small group of students (8 maximum) and do a mixture of activities from both the textbook and interactive whiteboard. The classes are all student centred, which means that the focus is on the students speaking and practising, led by the teacher. The classes are carefully prepared and structured by a professional teacher, with each lesson focussed around one or two topics and language points. There will also be plenty of time for reviewing and recycling previously learned material, giving you the practice necessary to achieve fluency in English.

What is the communicative approach?
The communicative approach is a method of language teaching that emphasises students interacting in real, ‘authentic’ scenarios in order to learn a language. Nowadays it is considered one of the most effective ways of learning a language. You can read more about it here.
What does 'immersion' mean?
Immersion means that from the moment you enter the classroom you will be encourage to speak only in English. You may be wondering, “how can I speak and understand English if I’ve just started learning?” The answer is that all our qualified and professionally trained teachers use a range of techniques to help a student understand, without using any translation.
I feel shy speaking English, how can you help me?
It’s completely normal to feel shy or silly speaking another language for the first time. All of our teachers are experienced professionals and are here to gently encourage you in the classroom. You won’t be put on the spot and you won’t be made to talk if you are uncomfortable. We strictly limit our groups to 8 people maximum (the average group size is about 5 students per class) so you won’t feel overwhelmed. You’ll also enjoy our excellent customer service – all our coordination and reception staff are very friendly and helpful and are here to make your time at the school as pleasant and stress-free as possible!
I am a complete beginner. Does the teacher speak my language?
All of our English teachers speak some Spanish. They always aim to do the entire class in Spanish and are successful most of the time, but they can help you out with the occasional Spanish translation if necessary. There are also several translation tools available online if you don’t speak Spanish. You will be amazed at what you can understand and say, with the correct structure and guidance from an experienced teacher!
Which level is best for me?
You will complete a thorough level test with one of our experienced teachers in order to place you in the most appropriate level. This consists of an initial online test, followed by a speaking and listening test completed at the school. Once we have studied the results we’ll let you know shortly afterwards which group is best for you. If you feel the group is too easy / too challenging we can easily move you into a different one more appropriate for you. You can start the online level test here.

It has been a pleasure being a part of L4L and working with all the wonderful teachers. I look back over the last 2 years and really can’t believe how much I’ve learned! It’s very centrally located in a beautiful piso in Eixample and I can say both the technology and the teaching are state-of-the-art. Classes are always quite small and they cater to your individual needs. If you are looking for a good quality language school, this is your place in BCN. I can’t say enough good things about them!
