Why do the intensive English course?

This course is ideal for you if:

  • You want to improve your oral fluency.
  • You love speaking in English.
  • You want to work on your conversation skills.
  • You like studying in small groups (8 students maximum).

All of our courses follow a teaching method based on active student participation in class. In this way, the student has control over their own learning process, with the teacher there to help guide them and answer questions.

The classes are engaging and taught 100% in English.

The activities (dialogues, role play, presentations, pair work, etc.) come from real-life contexts and introduce important functional language such as giving or asking for information, expressing your opinion, discussing your likes and dislikes, managing social interactions, etc.

The classes are fun, engaging and dynamic and led by qualified teachers with lots of experience.

Frequently asked questions

What will the classes be like?
Fun, engaging and dynamic!

You will be in a small group of students (six maximum) and do a mixture of activities from both the textbook and interactive whiteboard. Our classes are student-centred, which means that the focus is on the students speaking and practising. They are structured and led by our experienced teachers, with each lesson focussed on one or two language points. There will also be plenty of time to review and recycle what you have learned, giving you the necessary practice to achieve fluency in English.

What is the communicative approach?
The communicative approach is a teaching method that emphasises students interacting in real, ‘authentic’ scenarios in order to learn a language. Nowadays it is considered one of the most effective methods of language learning. You can read more about it here.
What does 'immersion' mean?
Immersion means that from the moment you enter the classroom you will be encouraged to speak only in English. You may be wondering, “how can I speak and understand English if I’ve just started learning?” The answer is that our qualified and professionally trained teachers use a range of techniques in order to help a student understand, without using any translation.
I feel shy speaking in English. How can you help me?
It is completely normal to feel shy or silly speaking another language for the first time. All of our teachers are experienced professionals and are here to gently encourage you in the classroom. You won’t be put on the spot and you won’t be made to talk if you feel uncomfortable. We strictly limit our groups to 8 people maximum (the average group size is about 5 students per class) so you won’t feel overwhelmed.

You’ll also enjoy our excellent customer service – all our coordination and reception staff are friendly and helpful and are here to make your time at the school as pleasant and stress-free as possible!

I am a complete beginner. Does the teacher speak my language?
All of our English teachers speak some Spanish. Their aim is to teach the entire class in English, and they are usually successful, but they can always help you out with the occasional Spanish translation if necessary. There are also many translation tools available online if you don’t speak Spanish. You will be amazed at what you can understand and say with the help of a well-structured, organized class and experienced teacher!
Which level is best for me?
You will complete a thorough level test with one of our teachers in order to place you in the most appropriate level. This consists of an initial online test, followed by a speaking and listening test completed at the school. As soon as we have your results we will let you know which group is best for you. If you feel the level is too easy or too difficult, we can easily move you to a different one. You can start the online level test here.

It has been a pleasure being a part of L4L and working with all the wonderful teachers. I look back over the last 2 years and really can’t believe how much I’ve learned! It’s centrally located in a beautiful building in Eixample, and I can say both the technology and the teaching are state-of-the-art. Classes are always quite small and they cater to your individual needs. If you are looking for a good quality language school, this is your place in BCN. I can’t say enough good things about them!
